System 3 is NOT a good deal, it's not only lacking a monitor, but 1gb of ram and it's probably using the old Pentium D dual-cores that are basically the lowest performing/most heat producing dual-cores ever made. A PRO is that it has XP.

System 2 uses the lowest-end Core 2 based chip out there. And since you can't overclock these pre-built systems, just about any AMD X2 will outperform it, especially 4000+, 4400+ and 5000+ that seem to be in every AMD system.

So that leaves System 1 as the best. Is that a 17 LCD or Flat CRT?

Do you do the basic PC stuff (browsing, typing, music, downloads, photos, etc)? If so, you're all set.

BUT if you want to game or edit a lot of digital video, I would highly recommend you build your own. It's easy, it's fun and you get better components for the same (if not less) money and most parts carry a whopping 1-3 year warranty which is a far cry from the 90-days you get from HP/Dell/Gateway/etc.

Here's a simple parts list from the best place to buy parts:
$70 - AMD X2 4000+
$60 - Gigabyte motherboard
$53 - 2gb of DDR2-800 RAM
$30 - Pioneer DVD burner
$70 - 250gb 7200rpm hard disk
$50 - Coolermaster Case
$55 - Corsair 450watt power supply
$170 - 20 Viewsonic LCD monitor
$90 - Windows XP

If you know where to look online you can get XP Pro for free...

The above has a much larger monitor, a power supply that can power extra hard drives or a graphics card with ease and a case that has great ventilation and room for add-ons...all while being of better build quality and having longer warranties.

Hmm i am computer illiterate but i removed my pre installed Norton to get a later Norton product free from my broadband provider and i tried everything as mentioned in previous mails but nothing worked 100% so i just went in to the program files if i remember correctly and ripped out anything to do with Norton and it worked for me.Now i am a fool and it may be the wrong thing to do so maybe someone would like to comment.

Well, there are a lot of cool video games that you might consider. Don't get me wrong, video games are not just for boys. I bet she will love a Wii. I bought one for my younger siblings and they LOVE it! There are sooo many neutral games that aren't just targeted towards guys, for example all Mario and Sonic games are good picks. Although most videogame platforms are a little pricey, you may want to consider getting your daughter a hand held device like a Nintendo DS or PSP, they're usually a little less expenseive, but offer the same amount of fun! :)
If your daughter isn't into video games, try some DVD's that she might like. Or maybe an upgrade from the electronics that she already has... But must it be electronics that you get your daughter? If you want to try something else, how about a bike? Maybe some jewelry or makeup? Clothes? I'm pretty sure your daughter will love and enjoy anything that you get her, regardless if it isn't an electronic. =)

If this a system that you don't use for yourself, or just e-mails and surfing a referb system is okay for the money. AMD makes good processors and I would recommend them also. I have 2 AMD computers that I have built. I also have Intel laptops, all preform well the AMD's work just as well as an old Intel P2 that I have. It really depends on how and what you are going to use the computer for.
